Shelly's Pins~n~Needles

It was May of 2010 when I got that devastating call, my diagnosis with stage 3 breast cancer. I began treatment immediately and closed my in-home daycare that I had operated for 13 years.

One year later my treatments were wrapping up and it was time to get back to work. Knowing I no longer had the energy to care for 10 kids at once, I set out in search of something that would still allow me the flexibility to be home with my 3 boys. Then one day I went with my mother in law to drop off a quilt at her long arm quilter's house. I had done some research on long arm quilting in advance and had an interest in learning. She invited me down to her quilt studio and I knew this could be a rewarding and enjoyable next step for me.

Shelly's Pins~n~Needles was born in the months following that fateful day and 2,500+ quilts later we are still stitching away!

Shelly Rushlow

I enjoy living out in the country surrounded by trees and wildlife. I love to watch the deer, turkey, squirrels, and birds feed in the backyard while I eat breakfast each morning. The wood peckers are my favorite visitors. I also enjoy swimming, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. I am married with 3 boys who have now all graduated college. I have operated a business out of my home for 24 years and look forward to many more!

Thing 1

Thing 1 joined me in 2012 as my first long arm and was patient with me as I learned how it works. It has been with me ever since and we have completed over 2,400 quilts together. Thing 1 is a Gammill Classic with Statler Stitcher and a 14 foot professional table.

Thing 2

Thing 2 is the most recent addition to the family and is one heck of a work horse. It may be bigger and faster than Thing 1, but its quilting is done just as delicately. This machine is a Gammill Optimum with Statler Stitcher and a 14 foot professional table.
